Preventing Hair Loss
Despite all the products available today that tell you how to cope with your hair loss, there are few which tell you how to prevent hair loss from occurring in the first place. Of course, if your hair loss is hereditary, then it will be more difficult for you to stop your hair from thinning.
But there are steps you can take to slow down the process. If you want to stop hair loss, here are some simple steps that you can follow.
First, wash your hair regularly using a mild shampoo. Make sure you wash all shampoo and conditioner residue out of your hair. Both the action of shampooing your hair and scalp as well as a thorough rinse with warm water will keep your scalp in a healthy condition.
Another easy preventative measure is to change your hairstyle. If you wear your hair pulled back, this style puts extra stress on your hair shaft which can cause your hair to break, thereby bringing an early end to its lifecycle.
Make sure that you eat a balanced diet that contains vitamins such as B6, B12, C, and E. Zinc and protein are also recommended. All of these vitamins help to keep your hair healthy and shiny, as well as helping to maintain the natural color of your hair.
If you regularly color, perm or straighten your hair, then give your hair a break once in a while. All these treatments can damage the hair shaft which causes it to break early. Every few months give your hair a bit of time out and pampering, allowing it to recover.
There are some situations where no amount of preventative treatment will stop hair loss. Things such as chemotherapy and hormonal changes are some examples. It doesn’t mean that you should give up on the preventative treatment. Massaging your scalp to stimulate blood circulation, combined with the steps above should help promote healthy hair growth as soon as your body has recovered sufficiently to do so.
Whether you are able to stop hair loss entirely or just slow down the process, largely depends to a certain degree on your genes and the cause of your hair loss. However, taking preventative steps to stop hair loss occurring in the first place is a positive action that most of us can do.
